VEHA Archive: Ruins of Belarus

This book tells the story of the fate of Belarusian ruins, most of which at one time were under threat of destruction due to wars, neglect, and state violence: castles and churches, town halls and churches, synagogues and houses were destroyed. Many disappeared without a trace, but remained in photographs. Some were saved, yet most continue to decay and may vanish completely without care and attention. In the photographs we also see people against the background of these buildings, and this is an important focus for us to show our history from the point of view of a person who lives in this space. The texts recount the history of the construction of these buildings and the process of their destruction. This book is a journey with maps through a world that no longer exists, yet it gives us the possibility to return, in memory, to the walls of our homeland.
